Hi,

We have a Kingston pen drive 512mb, no computer recognized it meaning the i/f chip used was bad, so we bought another similar drive and put the deffective drives flash chip to the new one.
Now the drive is recongized but it shows as 16mb only and no data inside. Seems there is something missing or something we are doing wrong.

Any advices welcome.

I have had success many times using this method, but you need to check that the controller IC is the same, and that the flash RAM IC is the same size. Also, recheck your soldering. Otherwise, it is very possible that flash IC is damaged.

If the pendrive are identical and the controller chip is identical recheck soldering. If still recognised as 16MB. the flash is defective or there's a severe corruption (logical) on the data INSIDE the flash : read the flash externally with a programmer.

Question,
Can I Read The Memory Flash Ic Using anything [ Tell Me what And Were To Make or Get One ] And Still Access The Data .Or I Will 100% Need The Defective Microcontroller Replaced With Working One
