View Full Version : WD400EB fw fix by HDD Repair 1.1?

Anybody can tell me please if I can fix the firmware for a WD400EB with HDD repair 1.1 or 2 ?
It is detected ok by bios but after post it say " Secondary master hard disk fail", press F1 to resume" but if I press F1 nothing happening....The computer did not boot from any other attached device...I don't have PC3000.

Ok. I found "Check WD" http://files.hddguru.com/index.php?&direction=0&order=&directory=WD ...I hope this program you refered to..I made a boot floppy disk ...run and.....
Can you please tell me how to capture the log file ? :confused:

You have the correct Check WD tool.
Put your drive as master.
Conect it to IDE 2.
Type Check_wd >log.txt
A file named log.txt will be created on the floppy.
Past it here.

Hi guys. I have a similar problem with a WD200BB. Sometimes it is recognized in bios but give a message "Secondary Master Fail" and sometimes bios does not recognize it. I tested the cable and ide port and both are ok.
wd.exe translation regeneration dont work. Is possible recover this drive with HDD Repair 1.1 ?

Just regenerate the translator from hdd repair or wd.exe ur drive will be ok .

Tks for reply allfun.
Regenerate the translator from wd.exe (eng version) doesnt work. When i try MHDD scan i got a full screen of "S" and the program quit with a error message.

Two more infos:
1. When the bios recognize the drive it takes about 10 secs to display the fail message;
2. Even set the bios to use LBA, the post screen says "CHS, UDMA2, 20.028".

I will contact the owner of drive and try to get more informations.

Here the bad news. The owner of drive said this: " My boyfriend try to fix the drive using all options of a program named w'anything' but doesnt work, then I call you".
Well, I assume that "w'anything'" means wd.exe and the guy must have use format service area option.

Any way to put this drive back in service ?

Hmmm .....

Based on the log, more work needs to be done. Id 20, 23, 25, 44 and 59 needs fixing. If you understand wdc fw and assuming there isn't any hard error, recovery will take no more than 24hrs. If hard error occurs, then will need more time ...

If format service area option was used then say "bye bye drive, hello dustbin ....."

If this is not your cup of tea then I suggest getting professional help.

Well, this really is not my cup of tea, so i'll wait until the end of Carnaval (i live in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil) to give the bad news to my client.

But I have 2 more questions:
1. Ids 20, 23, 25, 44 and 59 can be fixed using just a piece of software or needs PC-3000 ?
2. Beyond what I found in this forum where can I find more information about wdc firmware ?

1. It requires specific software to the drive in question. PC3K, HRT, Salvation, blah blah blah .... ;-)

2. Not much. They're proprietary ... general info floats around on the web ... specific ones are buried within DR people heads ... the only one who really understood wdc fw is wdc themselves but of course, they're not talking to any Tom, Dick and Harry .....
