Hi,
At last I'm trying to point out a correct procedure for repairing the SA on Maxtor drives...
The case is a drive with defective sectors on modules / overlays : rewriting the modules won't work because there are defective sectors on the SA and rewriting them don't eliminate the cause.
The trouble is how to relocate them : the SA sectors are defined as UBA, outside the LBA area. Need to relocate / lock the defective sectors on the SA (UBA notation) : at this point, do someone of you know the formula for converting UBA to PCHS (cylinder/head/sector) ?
If known, I think we simply could add the defective sectors to the P-LIST (at last the P-LIST should be working correctly!) , turn drive off then on , the SA is now OK ... and rewrite the modules.
